Bihar youth wins Rs 5 crore jackpot on 'Kaun Banega Crorepati 5'

The fifth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati got its first crorepati winner on Tuesday when Sushil Kumar from Motihari, Bihar, won the bumper prize of Rs. 5 crore on the show.
Sushil, 28, is a modest computer operator drawing a monthly salary of Rs. 6,000. He also gives computer lessons at a local institute in Motihari. "I never thought in my wildest of dreams I could do this," he said, after winning the prize. The episode, shot in Mumbai, got everyone on the sets in a jubilant mood as Sushil started inching towards the jackpot. He steadily and intelligently answered most of the questions and saved his lifelines for the end. On the set, Sushil was accompanied by his wife Seema. They got married just five months back.

The young couple was moved to tears when Amitabh Bachchan handed Sushil his cheque of Rs. 5 crore. Even Big B was extremely excited about Sushil's winning. "You have created history. Your grit and determination has made you come so far in this show," Bachchan said.
"I am speechless. I am not able to think or react now. This is surely a dream come true but it is something that is yet to sink in. I hope my victory will inspire people living in small towns of Bihar," an overwhelmed Sushil said. Sushil made wise moves while answering the questions. His deftness and presence of mind saw him cross all the hurdles until he got stuck at the thirteenth question, which was about the colonial power that withdrew its involvement from the Nicobar Island in 1968.
Sushil was doubtful about the answer so he made use of two of his lifelines - Phone a Friend and Double Dip - and came up with the answer that won him the dream amount. As a youngster, Sushil wanted to take the civil services exams. He wanted to come to Delhi and prepare for the exams. However, he could not do so as he was unable to afford the expensive coaching classes in the Capital. Now, after having won the bounty, Sushil plans to enroll himself at a prominent coaching institute in Delhi and start preparing for his dream job.
But the first thing that he plans to do with the prize money is get a wellfurnished house for his wife, who has always dreamt of living in a lofty apartment. For the time being, though, Sushil is enjoying the attention showered by the media on him.

Life and times of Muammar Gaddafi

His relationship with the world has seen some very dark phase. Former US president Ronald Reagan had once called him a "mad dog". In this June 13, 1999 photo, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is photographed in Cape Town, South Africa.
On foreign trips, instead of staying at five star hotels, he has set up camp in a luxury tent and is accompanied by armed female bodyguards. In this August 20, 1990 photo, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi gestures during a news conference in Tipoli.

Born in a desert near Sirte in 1942, Muammar Gaddafi, the mercurial and eccentric strongman, was the longest-serving leader in both Africa and the Arab world, having ruled Libya since he toppled King Idris I in a coup at the age of 27. In this September 1, 1987 file photo, Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi, holds a baton as he sits to review Libyan troops during the 18th anniversary celebration of Libya's revolution in Tripoli.

Osama raid: Treason charge on Pak doctor

Islamabad: A Pakistani panel, investigating the US raid to kill Osama bin Laden in Abbotabad May 2, Thursday suggested registration of treason charges against a doctor who helped a fake CIA vaccination programme in an attempt to obtain DNA from the Al Qaeda leader's family.
Shakil Afridi was arrested by the Pakistani security agency days after the US military helicopters killed the most wanted man in a compound where he was believed to have lived for years.
The US had reportedly pressurized Pakistan to release Afridi but the authorities rejected the US demand.
"In view of the record and evidence placed before the Commission in relation to Dr Shakeel Afridi, the Commission is of the view that prima facie, a case of conspiracy against the State of Pakistan and high treason is made out against him," a commission statement said.
The statement said that a case under relevant law should be registered against Afridi and he should be proceeded in accordance with law.
Pakistani laws carry death penalty for high treason charges, legal experts say.
The statement said the commission has taken statements and investigated the wives and daughters of Osama bin Laden and they are no more required by the commission.
It also withdrew its earlier order to restrain the Pakistani authorities from handing over the Osama family members to any country.
The commission again interviewed the chief of the main intelligence agency Thursday for the second time in two days.
It conducted an exhaustive interview of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Shuja Pasha, to know his perspective leading to the Abbottabad incident.
The Commission also allowed the security forces to hand over the alleged Osama compound/house at Abbottabad to the civil administration for disposal in accordance with relevant law.
Sources said the commission's decision may lead to the destruction of Osama's compound as many people are visiting the place daily.
The security forces have blocked all roads to the compound and are not allowing anyone, including journalists, to visit the building.
